ARTE Haka

Back in the day Te Rauparaha was a leader and a protector of his tribe and he had many enemies that wanted to kill him.  He was too weak to take on his enemies so he went on a journey to find some fighters to help him battle his 

enemies.  He whispered to himself  “Go to lake Rotoaira Te Wharerangi village will protect you.” When he arrived the Chief of the village told Te Rauparaha “ If your enemies are coming and they want to kill you.” Te Wharerangi told Te Rauparaha to hide in their potato pit because his enemies would never think of looking there.  A lady named (wahine) Te Rangi Koria was blocking the entrance so his enemies won't look there.  In the potato pit it was dark.  He put his ear on 

the wall.  He can hear dark footsteps and voices then he whispers “Will I die Will I die Will I live Will I live onward the sun is shining.”
